A KC-30 aircraft, from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), will take off this Friday afternoon (20) from Galeão Air Base, in Rio de Janeiro, bound for Tel Aviv, in Israel, to repatriate Brazilians who are in the country.
The return of the ninth repatriation flight is scheduled for the early hours of Monday (23).
Repatriation
The federal government has already repatriated 1,135 people and 35 pets who were in Israel in the last ten days.
In total, six flights returned to Brazil. Two FAB aircraft are abroad waiting to return to the country with Brazilians who are in the Gaza Strip.
The expectation is that new flights will be carried out to the region in the coming days.
Brazilians in Gaza
The government’s biggest difficulty has been managing to rescue Brazilians who want to leave the Gaza Strip. The group of 32 people is mostly made up of women and children, and is in the city of Rafah, which connects Gaza to Egypt, and is treated as the main escape route.
The cities of Rafah and Khan Yunis, which house refugees from different countries – including Brazilians – were bombed by Israel at the beginning of the week. Brazilian, Israeli, Egyptian and Palestinian diplomats heard by the CNN assess that the Israeli attack would make the repatriation of the group of Brazilians difficult.
The presidential aircraft designated to rescue Brazilians in Gaza is awaiting authorization in Cairo to bring the group, which in addition to 22 Brazilians includes ten Palestinians. Before landing in the country’s capital, the Presidency plane took humanitarian kits with medicines and supplies and water purifiers to El-Arish.
The Egyptian city is located approximately 45 kilometers away from Rafah and is home to tons of humanitarian supplies sent by nations around the world that are vital for the people in Gaza.
Another FAB aircraft, the KC-390 Millennium is in Rome and acts as a reserve for the presidential plane. If it is not deployed to Egypt, the aircraft will be moved to rescue Brazilians who are in Israel wanting to return to Brazil.
