Fabio Ridolfi’s appeal: “Dear Italian State, help me die”

«Dear Italian State, I have been reduced to this for 18 years. Every day my condition becomes more and more unsustainable. Help me to die ». L’Luca Coscioni Association re-launches the appeal of Fabio Ridolfi, 46 years old from Fermignano, in the province of Pesaro Urbino. For 18 years he has been immobilized due to a rupture of the basilar artery quadriparesis. He communicates through an eye pointer because he can only move his eyes.

He turned to the Single Regional Health Authority of the Marches to activate the checks required by the sentence of the Constitutional Court Cappato / dj Fabo. Whoever makes this request must have these characteristics: be kept alive by life-sustaining treatments; be affected by an irreversible pathology, a source of physical or psychological suffering that he deems intolerable; being fully capable of making free and informed decisions; and not wanting to use other health treatments for pain and deep sedation.

Fabio Ridolfi is the third Italian to apply for assisted suicide. Before him they did it, while maintaining anonymity, two other quadriplegic patients, always from the Marche region. In recent months he has been subjected to medical examinations, but the opinion of the Marche Region Ethics Committee has not yet arrived. He has decided to broadcast a video in which he is seen composing his appeal with the eye pointer.

Fabio asks to put an end to his suffering in a painless way, with the fastest and most respectful ways of his dignity. It is his right, based on the sentence of the Constitutional Court in the Cappato / Antoniani case “, declared Filomena Gallo and Marco Cappato, national secretary and treasurer of the Luca Coscioni Association,” Once again, as already happened with Mario and Antonio, Asur’s delay in responding to his request, in violation of legal obligations, entails suffering which for Fabio has been unbearable for years ».
