The Moscow Department of Transport and Road Infrastructure Development has announced the launch of the “most important” stage of testing the “face” fare payment project – with passengers.

Previously, Face Pay was tested by metro employees and project partners. As the developers explain, this is a completely contactless way to pay for metro fares using face recognition technology. In total, at the stage of internal testing, more than 1 million successful passes were made at the station.
Face Pay technology for passengers started working on the Filevskaya metro line. The passage is carried out through turnstiles, in front of which a round black sticker is placed on the floor. The fare corresponds to the current tariff of the bank card.
So far, testing is very limited – only for 1000 people. However, everyone can apply for participation. Deptrans plans to gradually connect all lines to the tests and increase the focus group, and by the end of the year the service will be available at all stations.
