Face-to-face services sector has the potential to grow more, says economist

In an interview with CNN this Friday (30), the chief economist at Inter, Rafaela Vitoria, said that the face-to-face services sector still has potential for more growth and hiring until the end of the year.

“The face-to-face service sectors have not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels. These are sectors that still have room to grow only by recovering what was lost in the last two years,” he said.

This Friday, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) reported that the unemployment rate in Brazil stood at 8.9% in the quarter ended in August. The number represents a drop of 0.9 percentage point compared to the previous quarter, ended in May, and is the lowest level since the quarter ended in July 2015 (8.7%).

The economist points out that it is also important to remember the industrial and civil construction sectors, which “continue with a consistency in hiring”, according to her.

“We like to point out that industry and construction continue to be consistent in hiring additional labor this year, so there is a more widespread improvement”.

According to data released by the IBGE, the number of employed persons broke a new record in the historical series, which began in 2012, totaling 99 million persons. The number of unemployed workers, on the other hand, fell by 8.8% (937 thousand fewer people) in the quarterly comparison, the lowest level since November 2015.
