Apple Is In Trouble: Facebook To Prepare An Antitrust Lawsuit Against It

The Current relationship between Facebook and Apple is no more a secret now. We all know that in December 2020, Facebook sorely disagreed with the latest privacy policies updated by Apple. It believes that this was done only to compete and hence lower Facebook’s position as a giant technology company. The company then decided to declare war against Apple for using its position over the play store to benefit itself and harm small businesses. To save its position as a giant company and to avoid facing loss, Facebook did whatever it had to do.

On Wednesday, Facebook launched a campaign to encourage Apple users to stop Apple from tracking their whereabouts by disabling those installed apps. However, Apple tried to cover by saying that it is concerned about its users’ data.

According to the latest reports: Mark Zuckerberg; the CEO of Facebook mentioned that Apple is its biggest competitor, in the meeting held on Wednesday. After not seeing an extraordinary response to the efforts Facebook is making since December; Facebook reportedly considers hitting Apple with antitrust suit.

In response to what Facebook has claimed, Apple has responded by saying that despite applying these policies on other apps than that owned by Apple, it fully ensures that the data of its users is not shared with third parties. The company further added: the changes in the privacy policies have been made because Apple is concerned about its users’ privacy and the updated policies will hence improve their privacy; better than ever before. However, Facebook seems to be on strong grounds to argue that giving itself the comparative advantage of its position on the Play store is a one-sided and an inequitable act of Apple.

According to the information provided by the people, Facebook is mainly concerned and triggered by the updates Apple has introduced in its privacy policies in iOS 14. Also, Apple is soon to launch the App Transparency Feature in the upcoming months, which will seek users’ permission to track the apps downloaded. According to two of the people who are most aware of this process, the update on iOS 14 was launched in September 2020.

The lawsuit can prove to be a double-edged sword for Facebook

The reports suggest that the four people who are most familiar with the situation are said to warn Facebook for taking such a big step against Apple. They are fearful that this might escalate the intensity of outrage between the two giant companies. Hence, it is yet doubtful that whether Facebook will file the suit against Apple or not.

Facebook is Fearless

Despite all the trigger warnings, Facebook seems fearless and persistent in challenging Apple for its injustices. As it also helped Epic Games last month by providing it wilt he internal documents, intending to win the war.

Old Rivals

The story of Apple and Facebook engaging in aggressive competition is not a new one- it is been years since both the companies are in extreme opposition. However, to cover its faults, Apple replied to all the accusations by Facebook by saying that Facebook collects its users’ data as much as it wants. The firm further added to the response that Apple’s updated privacy policies are a way to stand up against companies like Facebook. However, these excuses were not enough to convince the opposite party, asFacebook reportedly considers hitting Apple with an antitrust suit.
