President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) again attacked the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Luiz Edson Fachin, during a speech at the Planalto Palace this Tuesday (7).
According to Bolsonaro, the minister “raped” democracy by inviting ambassadors to talk about election security last month. During the meeting, the minister asked the international community to be on alert for the Brazilian election.
The president claimed that Fachin is interfering in the country’s foreign policy.
“What did he do this past week? Foreign policy is mine and the minister’s [das Relações Exteriores Carlos] France. He invites around 70 ambassadors and, indirectly, attacks the Presidency of the Republic, as a man who does not respect the Constitution, does not respect the electoral process.”
For Bolsonaro, Fachin “thinks about taking a coup”. The president also said that his entire family is persecuted.
“[Ele] indirectly concludes: ‘Your head of state must recognize the winner of the elections so that there is no questioning in the courts’. What is this if not a will? A rape of democracy?”
Bolsonaro said he will not continue “living like a mouse” and defended the need for a “reaction”, without giving details.
“I am the head of the Armed Forces, we are not going to make fools of ourselves. I have an obligation to act, I’ve been playing within the 4 lines [da Constituição], do not find a single word of mine, a single gesture, a single act outside the Constitution. will 3 [ministros] of the Supreme who can do a lot, should they continue to think they can do everything? I’m not going to live like a mouse, there has to be a reaction. If the population thinks it shouldn’t be that way, prepare to be prisoners without handcuffs. The minister who releases Lula is the same one who is at the head of the Superior Electoral Court calling the shots”.
THE CNN contacted Minister Luiz Edson Fachin, the STF and the TSE and they said they would not comment on the president’s statements.
