Faction leaders will be transferred, says governor of Rio Grande do Norte to CNN

In an exclusive interview with CNN this Tuesday (14), the governor of Rio Grande do Norte, Fátima Bezerra (PT), said that leaders of criminal factions will be transferred, after a series of occurrences in cities of the state this morning.

Classifying acts as “criminal, disgusting, abominable”, Bezerra highlighted that there is an effort by the state staff (Military and Civil Police) and other security forces, as at the national level, to face the situation. “They are acting firmly, all mobilized”, he added.

Still according to the governor, 18 people have been arrested so far.

“We will overcome, because the government, I repeat, will not give a millimeter. These criminals are already being located. Several, including, already arrested, and will account for Justice. And they will be punished with all the rigors of the law, because we will not give a single millimeter to bring peace and restore security in Rio Grande do Norte”, he said.

The governor also commented on the authorization granted by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flávio Dino, for the National Force to be sent to the RN, after Bezerra’s request. She highlighted that it will be important in the fight against criminals.

In addition, he also stressed that the presence of police officers will be reinforced “extensively” not only in Natal, but in other municipalities that were affected by the wave of violence.

understand the situation

In the early hours of this Tuesday (14), several occurrences such as shooting attacks, fires in vehicles, businesses and public buildings were recorded in Rio Grande do Norte.

Weapons, drugs, money, motorcycles and explosive devices were seized and there was a confrontation in the West Zone of Natal, according to the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (SESED), which left one man dead.

In an interview with CNN this Tuesday, the Secretary of Public Security of the RN, Colonel Francisco Araújo, stated that, although investigations by the Civil Police and Federal Police (PF) are ongoing, the authorities believe that the attacks are “complaint actions by criminal organizations for treatment in prisons”.

Bezerra also addressed the matter in this way, saying that these acts are “a reaction of the so-called organized crime to the firm and assertive measures that the government of RN has adopted with regard to the control of the prison system, as well as the confrontation of crime and violence ”.
