Fake Banking Central Strike: Nine suspects are arrested in SP

Nine suspects were arrested in the act for the crime known as the “Fake Banking Center scam” during an operation of the Santa Catarina Civil Police with the São Paulo Civil Police. The arrests took place on Wednesday (30).

The fraud is performed by criminals who pass by employees of financial institutions. They claim suspicious transactions in the victim’s account. To deceive the targets of the coup, previously obtained personal data and manipulation techniques are used. Thus, scammers induce victims to provide passwords, install remote access applications, or make PIX transfers to third party accounts, known as “oranges.”

During the demarches, one of the members of the criminal group was identified, which motivated the issuance of five search and seizure warrants in the cities of São Paulo and Santo André.

In the operation, a residence in the West Zone of São Paulo was identified as the place where the investigators gathered during the week to perform the blows. In the property, eight more people were arrested and 17 cell phones, nine computers, headphones and telephone chips used in the crimes were arrested.

Everyone involved were filed in the act by criminal association. The procedure was registered in the Special Body of Repression of Organized Crime (Siege) of the 1st Section of the Civil Police of São Paulo.

According to the Santa Catarina state police, the investigations began in June last year, after a person in Florianópolis lost $ 89,000 in the coup. Now, investigations continue from the analysis of the seized material and the identification of other victims and possible members of the criminal organization.
