Fake doctor pays R$28,000 bail and is released in Minas Gerais

Physiotherapist Bruno Cezar Lucchesi paid bail of R$28,000 this Monday (1st) and the Court ordered the issuance of a release warrant. He will comply with precautionary measures.

He was arrested on June 3, suspected of pretending to be a doctor specializing in weight loss and intimate harmonization in Belo Horizonte.

The request for habeas corpus was granted by the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais last Thursday, 27th.

The judges revoked his preventive detention and established precautionary measures, such as electronic monitoring for 6 months; prohibition of maintaining contact with victims; passport collection; home care at night and on days off for 6 months; and suspension of professional practice at the Regional Physiotherapy Council, in addition to payment of bail.

Judge Leonardo Antônio Bolina Filgueiras, from the Belo Horizonte Investigation Center, determined that the warrant be issued after the physiotherapist signs the commitment term stating compliance with the precautionary measures.

The 37-year-old physiotherapist was indicted for fraud, ideological falsehood, illegal practice of medicine, issuing a false certificate and exposing the life or health of another to direct and imminent danger.

According to the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG), he worked at a clinic in the Barreiro region of Belo Horizonte. According to the investigations, in addition to the patients, other professionals hired and partners of the establishment also became victims because they believed that the suspect had a degree in medicine or that he had specializations in the area of physiotherapy.

The investigation revealed that he received around R$40,000 per week, through treatments, procedures and medical consultations, in addition to partnerships with laboratories and pharmacies, and the sale of medicines.

PCMG believes that he had been acting as a fake doctor for around three years.

Investigations

The investigation began after a report of an alleged error in a medical procedure. “Thinking it was a medical error, investigators went to the location and discovered that the suspect is a physiotherapist, who has no specialties and who was pretending to be a doctor,” said police officer Gislaine Rios.

The suspect was arrested on June 3 during a PCMG operation. He was assisting a person when the police arrived.

According to Gislaine, the suspect fraudulently used registration numbers at the Regional Medical Council (CRM) of other doctors (deceased, inactive, active and from other states) to prescribe medications, including controlled medications, and request tests.

According to investigations, the suspect was the one who provided initial care to patients at the clinic. After the consultation, he would decide whether to pass the case on to another professional or whether to carry out the treatments himself.

The police found that depending on the patient’s needs, the person being investigated presented himself as an orthopedist, traumatologist, endocrinologist, among other specialties, in order to obtain a financial advantage.

To carry out the procedures, the investigator promoted the tying of services and medicines, forcing patients to purchase their products. Thus, he stocked supplies without the supervision of a pharmacist.
