This Wednesday (13), the Civil Police carried out an operation against counterfeiting of the drug Ozempic in Rio de Janeiro.
The objective of the action is to dismantle a criminal organization responsible for stealing and falsifying the medicine. Agents from the Consumer Police Station (Decon) and the 13th DP (Ipanema) participate in the operation.
Police officers serve five preventive arrest warrants and 16 search and seizure warrants against group members. Until now, one person involved was arrested in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the west of Rio.
Investigations indicate that the gang ordered Ozempic from pharmacies and, when the delivery man arrived to collect payment, one of the members pretended to pay and another exchanged the real medicines for the fake ones.
The delivery man ended up returning to the pharmacy with the counterfeit medicine. Therefore, the crime turned both establishments and patients into victims, as they did not know that they were selling and buying the counterfeit product.
