Fake Trezor Wallet Suite removed from App Store

Apple has removed the fake copy of the Trezor app from its App Store, but other suspicious clones remain.

Apple has removed the fake Trezor Wallet Suite mobile app from the App Store. About it writes 9to5mac.com with reference to the partner of the law firm The Crypto Lawyers Raphael Jacobi.

As the publication notes, at the moment a fake clone of this application broke into the top search results for users from the US and the UK. According to Jacobi, the application managed to hang in the marketplace for several weeks. It is not clear what data could have fallen into the wrong hands. The scale of the scheme remains unclear.

At the same time, it remains unclear how a fake Trezor clone could get past the strict moderation of the App Store. For example, earlier in the cryptocurrency community, a scandal erupted due to App Store moderation ultimatums to the developer of a social network with support for bitcoin. App Store moderation also required a license to provide financial services from the creator of a non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet.

App Store search results continue to show suspicious apps posing as Trezor wallets. For example, some MyTREZŌR Suite: One Edition application still appears in the search results. At the same time, an unknown company NDT CONSULTANTS LIMITED is listed as the developer of the application.

Trezor Representatives announced on Twitterthat this application does not perform any functions for the circulation of cryptocurrencies. The original application works solely to monitor the cryptocurrency portfolio, Trezor added.

  • In May, Kaspersky Lab experts warned about the appearance of “singed” hardware wallets of the Trezor brand. Externally, a fake wallet is no different from a real one, and the user interface is exactly the same as the original.
  • The cardinal difference is hidden in the filling: it turned out that the fake wallet had a third-party microcontroller with traces of soldering on the chip. Instead of the original STM32F427 chip, the STM32F429 is installed with completely deactivated flash memory read protection mechanisms, the experts found out.
