Due to the descent of the Acre River, in Rio Branco (AC), two residences and a mechanic workshop collapsed in the Cidade Nova neighborhood, this Thursday (14). Vehicles were swept away by the collapse of the ground near the river and 65 people were affected and 16 removed, according to the Civil Defense of Rio Branco.
In the municipality, 75 thousand people were affected by the flooding of the Acre River. Of these, 52 thousand in the Urban Zone and 23 thousand in the Rural Zone. Around 4,200 people are in shelters and 15,000 outside their homes, according to the agency.
This morning, the river level measurement registered 9.64 meters — almost half the level of March 6, when the waters reached the second highest historical level, with 17.89 meters, since 1971. Since reaching the new record, the waters began to descend at a rapid pace.
The area of occurrence, classified as high risk, is already being monitored due to geological risk and lack of soil support — a situation that has worsened with the fall of river waters.
The region was isolated and families were removed by the agency, which carries out inspections at the site, according to the Civil Defense Coordinator of Rio Branco, lieutenant colonel Cláudio Falcão, in an interview with CNN . Agents entered homes in high-risk areas to remove residents' furniture and appliances.
At least four families received indications for removal, nearby at moderate risk. The Fire Department was called and is working at the scene to provide assistance to the families.
