Fame “was a prison” for Michael Jackson, says former guitarist

The guitarist Jennifer Batten 66, who shared the stage with Michael Jackson for ten years, spoke about the King of Pop this Tuesday (25), when his death turns 15 years old. The musician said that the artist viewed fame as a prison and that he had a life “full of pain”.

“I think people on the outside think that someone with so much fame must be happy. He didn’t have the freedom to leave or stop whenever he wanted,” he began. For her, her life “was a prison, because whenever he wanted to go to the bookstore or the cinema, he had to have six security guards to arrange it. It was 50% fame and 50% pain.”

Batten’s statement was given in an interview with the British newspaper The Sun, published this Tuesday on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Michael’s death.

The guitarist was chosen by the musical star from a list of more than a hundred others to play with him. She was present on all of the King of Pop’s world tours from 1987 to 1997.
