The mother of a 12 -year -old black teenager registered a police report after the girl and a black friend were the target of a Racist approach for a security of the Pátio Higienópolis Shopping in the noble region of São Paulo. Leni Pires das Mercês reported what happened and expressed the indignation and emotional shake of her daughter. According to her, the adolescents, both students of the Team College, neighboring the mall, went to the establishment to have lunch after an extra class on racial literacy and anti -racist conduct.

After the incident, a teacher at the team that was in the place intervened, and the school coordination filed a formal complaint at the mall. Leni also went to the administration to file her complaint after convincing her daughter, initially reluctant to return to the scene due to trauma.
Leni Pires das Mercês emphasized the impact of racism suffered by her daughter and her friend. She shared that she insisted that her daughter would accompany her to the mall to register the complaint, because it was important for the girl to understand that she has the right to attend these spaces.
In conversation with security and mall administrator, Leni has heard an apology and the claim that employees undergo training. However, the mother questioned the effectiveness of this training in the face of the incident, classifying the approach as “explicit racism” and showing concern about the treatment given to vulnerable people in the place.
The mall, in response to the complaint, claimed that the safety involved was black and that the company values diversity, an argument that Leni considered insufficient to solve the problem.
Leni filed a police report at the Virtual Police Station of Racial Crimes and Crimes of Intolerance. “Where I can, I’m going to talk. Because you can’t happen, we’re in 2025. How can I be here talking about it?” He said.
Pátio Higienópolis Shopping, in a statement to CNN he regretted the incident and said he is in contact with the adolescent family. The venture stated that the behavior adopted does not reflect its values and that the case is being treated with the maximum seriousness.
The mall also reported that it has a frequent training and literacy grid, which will be even more reinforced to reiterate the commitment to a safe and welcoming space for all.
The Civil Police reported that the police report, registered electronically, will be referred to the police district of the area where the incident occurred for the appropriate investigations and clarification of the facts to be carried out.
