Family of Brazilian who died in Italy believes she was murdered and demands justice: “We want answers”

Bruna Cancio dos Santos, a 36-year-old trans woman from Pará, was found dead in the city of Rimini, Italy, where she had lived for over a year. The case took place on the afternoon of last Thursday (25) and neighbors triggered the police after hearing the noise of a fight.

In an interview with CNN the victim’s niece, Beatriz Dória, revealed that she believes that Bruna was murdered, one of the hypotheses investigated by the local police.

“She was planning to come to Brazil to visit our family in July. She was our great love, our pride. A person who has plans to commit suicide would never do that. We strongly believe that she was brutally murdered as there was blood, broken glass, marks on her arms that indicate a struggle.”

The family denounced the lack of help from the consulate to understand the legal procedures and bring the body to Brazil. “They are giving too short and shallow answers. The consulate does not help. We are devastated, waiting for justice and we want answers.”

A CNN requested information from the Itamaraty and the Italian police about the death of the Brazilian, but until the publication of this report, there was no response.
