Police in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States, said that the family of Débora Brandão, ex-girlfriend who was murdered by Danilo Cavalcante, “screamed with joy” upon learning that the Brazilian had been captured after two weeks on the run.
Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said the Brandão family “was screaming with joy and happiness that he was in jail.” “They lived their own personal nightmare,” she said.
Cavalcante was imprisoned in Pennsylvania, convicted of Débora’s murder.
He is also wanted in Brazil on a 2017 murder charge. When Débora found out about the case, she threatened to expose Cavalcante to the police, which led to the murder, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutor Deb Ryan added that Débora’s family members “were locked inside their homes and did not feel safe anywhere” since Danilo Cavalcante’s escape from prison on August 31.
Ryan said he worked with the Brandão family for two years to prepare them to testify in Cavalcante’s trial. “These children saw their mother murdered, so the daughter had to testify during the murder trial,” he said.
Danilo Cavalcante was captured this Wednesday

Danilo Cavalcante was captured this Wednesday (13), around 9 am, Brasília time, by the Pennsylvania state police. He had been on the run for two weeks and was considered “extremely dangerous” by police.
The police found the fugitive Brazilian lying in tall grass. He appeared to be sleeping on top of a rifle stolen from a local resident.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro said the arrest was carried out “without gunfire.” The police found the fugitive with the help of cameras that capture heat signals and this morning police tactical forces approached him.
“Cavalcante didn’t realize he was surrounded until this happened,” said Lt. Col. George Bivens. “That didn’t stop him from trying to escape.”
According to Bivens, he began crawling through the undergrowth, taking his rifle with him.
The U.S. Border Patrol Tactical Unit, Customs and Border Patrol teams released a dog, which subdued Cavalcante, as officers advanced.
The dog even bit Cavalcante, who was evaluated by the medical team at the scene.
Shortly after his capture, Danilo had his shirt torn by the police. Understand why.
During the 14-day search, schools were closed and residents were put on alert as police searched for the 34-year-old man in an area about 20 miles north of the Pennsylvania prison he escaped from.
Authorities even offered a reward of US$25,000 (around R$120,000) for information leading to his capture.
