When Simon An and his family heard screams from a storefront next to their taekwondo studio on Wednesday (19) outside Houston, Texas, they knew they had to find out what was going on.
The 20-year-old boy and his family – all martial artists – immediately ran to the place where the screams were coming from. There, they found a man trying to sexually assault a woman and intercepted the suspect, holding him until police arrived, according to a post on X, formerly Twitter, by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

In the post, the head of the local police department said: TO THE RESCUE: A group of good Samaritans rushed in to save the day. Officers were called to a disturbance in the 6800 block of Fry Road. Arriving at the scene, instructors from the Yong-In Tae Kwon Do dojo had pinned a suspect to the ground.
Simon An told CNN on Friday (21) that the family was returning from their lunch break and were parking at the Yong-In studio in Katy when their father heard a “loud scream” as he got out of the car. Then the whole family heard “a second scream, and it was loud. Very high.” “I would describe it as a scream of horror.”
His father took the family to a store near the Cricket Wireless store. He heard another scream when he opened the door and ran to the back staff room, where he found “a man on top of the woman with his hand over her mouth,” An said.
A CNN contacted the store for comment.
“Our first instinct was to save the girl,” said An. “We didn’t know what he was going to do to her.”
“My father pulled him and trapped him in the corner of the building,” An described.
The father suffered some scratches and bites during the fight, but is completely “fine”, An added.
Alex Robinson, 19, has been charged with attempted sexual assault in connection with the case, according to court documents obtained by the affiliate. CNN, KHOU. Robinson is accused of taking the victim to a different location, “causing bodily injury by asphyxiation,” “touching her chest,” and ordering the victim to remove her clothes.
Robinson’s bond was set at $100,000. A CNN has contacted his attorney for comment.
In an interview with KHOU, Simon An’s sister Hannah An, 22, said that she and her mother took the alleged victim to their training center to make sure she was okay because she needed it after this experience. .”
The pair’s father, Han An, told KHOU he was grateful to have been in the right place at the right time and looks forward to returning to class.
“My life is taekwondo,” Han said. “I’m very proud of my family.”
The Harris County police chief thanked the family for their “swift action in protecting others.”
