British Drag Race star Choriza May has sued an Uber driver for homophobia, after he canceled her reservation when he saw her waiting for the taxi. The Spanish drag queenwho appeared on the series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, claimed that she requested the services of the transport company Uber in London on Monday (September 18), but when the driver saw her, he got up and left.
“Just a little homophobia to finish off Fashion Week”May wrote on Twitter, posting her complaint along with a photo of herself and the vehicle.
Just a bit of homophobia to finish off Fashion Week. This @Uber driver just saw me in drag and canceled the trip right in front of my face then drove off. Just lovely 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 @Uber_Support pic.twitter.com/Gr5qEiSEjh

Choriza May stated on PinkNews that she and a friend, both dressed in drag as they had just finished a performance, called an Uber at noon on Monday to go out to eat.
As he pointed out, “when Uber arrived, I walk out, waving at him, holding my bags and wearing my makeup normally. It was clear that Uber was for us.” “I was just waiting for it to stop and I see him continue his course. I look at my phone and the Uber app was looking for another driver because he had canceled the ride».
According to the popular drag queen, this is not the first time something like this has happened to her, and just before the incident in London, many taxis ignored her when she was trying to find a route that day.
He added, how “it’s happened to a lot of drag queens and it’s disgusting that something like this happens”while he added: “We’re just doing our job. We want to go from one place to another to work and it is very sad that happen such distinctions».
“It leaves you in a vulnerable position where you have to wait for the next Uber, and at the same time you are exposed on the street in drag expecting another incident of homophobia at any moment“, he pointed out.
Choriza May emphasized that she does not know what the solution to this problem might be. “Maybe drivers should be educated a little more about diversity and maybe if they are not prepared to take every person in their car, they should not even be offering this service».
At the same time, he noted that “such incidents show that Pride should be about combating discrimination at all levels and that it is more than flags and campaigns with drag queens».
In July 2022, Uber published an anti-discrimination petition in an effort to make travel safer for LGBTQ+ passengers, after a series of incidents.
In 2020, a passenger claimed he was kicked out of an Uber and they punched him in the face when homophobic driver discovered he was gay. Earlier that year, a female driver demanded that two gay passengers stop kissing “because [ήταν] Christian”.
Speaking about the Monday incident reported by Choriza May, an Uber spokesperson told PinkNews: “What is being described is completely unacceptable and we are investigating it».
“Uber has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination of any kind, and any driver found to have behaved in this way is at risk of being removed from the platform.”
