Serbian actress Danjela Shtainfeld, who has been living and working in the US for the past few years, has complained that her colleague and former Culture Minister Branislav Lecic was the perpetrator of the rape she suffered nine years ago. Daniela Steinfield approached the Belgrade Prosecutor General yesterday to testify and reveal the name of her rapist. The case came to light in September 2020 when she released the documentary “Hold me right” which she edited and refers to her own rape and other cases of rape and sexual abuse in the United States.
The documentary, in which the actress reports that she was raped by a colleague in Serbia in 2012, at the age of 21, also includes a recorded telephone conversation she had with the alleged perpetrator, four years after her rape. In this audio document it is impossible to identify her interlocutor given that his voice has undergone technological alteration. As soon as the documentary was released, Daniela Steinfield was summoned by the prosecutor in Belgrade to testify and name the perpetrator in order to prosecute him. In her testimony, however, she refused to reveal her name, simply stating that “she is a popular actress with connections in the field of acting”.
Yesterday, the investigative journalistic network “Insajder” published, without any changes in the voice, the recorded conversation given to him by the actress herself.
In the conversation, Branislav Leτσιi ακού is heard justifying his act and even when asked if she understands how much he hurt her and how humiliating and traumatic what he experienced is, he explains that she should consider it her honor. “What happened should be considered an achievement and not a humiliation. I mean the fact that you managed to show interest in you and cause me emotions. This is an honor, not a humiliation […] When I get what I want it does not mean that I am degrading or humiliating you but it means that you deserve it. Do you have any idea who I am? ” The rape suspect Branislav Lecic can be heard talking in the conversation.
The prosecution announced that the actress handed over the recorded material and other data that are being examined to decide whether to prosecute. Branislav Lecic said in a written statement that “these allegations are false and are intended to damage his honor and reputation.”
Lecic is one of the most popular actors in Serbia. He became involved in politics in the mid-1990s as a member of the Democratic Party (DS). In 1996-97, he spearheaded opposition demonstrations against the Milosevic regime. From January 2001 until March 2004, he served as Minister of Culture in the Djindjic and Zivkovic governments.
Recently, two months ago, when young actress Milena Radulovic reported her rape to Mika Aleksic, director of the drama school she attended, Branislav Lecic said she was shocked, supported the young actress and condemned her abusive behavior. .
Lecic’s attitude irritated actress Daniela Steinfield, who was judged to be a hypocrite and was the reason – as she stated in a television interview today – to file a rape complaint against him.
