“Breno was with Joana in Bahia when she was 97 and told her that I would play her role. She was very happy to make this role. I have always accepted, in my life as an actress, uncomfortable characters – as well as Dona Joana. “Vitória” is based on a real story that happened in Rio de Janeiro in the 2000s.
Fernanda Montenegro plays the protagonist Dona Nina who lives in a slum surrounded by violence. One day she decides to document the crimes on her own, from filming recorded on VHS tapes, made from the window of her home in the South Zone of Rio.
The story is based on the actual case involving Joana da Paz woman who was responsible for unmasking a large gang of traffickers and corrupt police. In 2005, when the report on the case was aired, she was renamed “victory” and was eventually forced to live “hidden” until her death in 2023. Over the course of 17 years, she lived in the witness protection program.

“What motivated me was the search for this character for a social, human justice. It is a true story. A character not accommodated, ”Montenegro explained about what led her to accept to do the movie.
The actress also commented on her character’s “lonely” life, and how she connects this to the period of old age, making a relationship of the fact that the character in the movie mostly counts on a camera to tell what she wants to tell.
“We live in an electronic age and the character knows, because she has a television, a phone and everything that can be bought from electronic with little money. She is a woman who has survived a lot of suffering and knows that there is a new life that comes and that she needs to adapt. In old age, Loneliness is unharmed . Life leads you to loneliness. At age you will listen less, seeing less, get up with less agility and the joints begin to dry. This is all a loneliness too. But the film does not treat Victoria as a suffering, demagogic and melodramatic. On the contrary, it is a affectionate and fearless woman. ”
Production is directed by Andrucha waddington (“Me, you, they”), husband of the artist’s daughter, also the actress FERNANDA TORRES 59, who took over the work after the death of Breno Silveira.
