Farewell to Claudio Sorrentino, the Italian voice of Mel Gilbson and John Travolta

Claudio Sorrentino dies at the age of 75, taken away by Covid-19 on the evening of February 16 at Villa Tiberia, in his Rome. Journalist and author, everyone remembers him as the lead voice actor of Mel Gibson, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Russell Crowe, Mickey Rourke and even Mickey Mouse. Sorrentino, born in the capital on 18 July 1945, has had many lives. At 9 he became a theatrical actor taking part in comedies signed by Pirandello and De Filippo, while later he devoted himself to television by participating in various dramas, films, miniseries and entertainment programs such as Sunday In.

After appearing in broadcasts such as Blitz e Tandem and having signed very delicate investigations such as that of the families of children with drug problems, Claudio Sorrentino also writes several screenplays and rises for a period to the role of advisor to the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities, for Cinema and Entertainment. To make him famous to the general public, however, is his voice acting activity: was the first Rusty in Rin Tin Tin, then Richie Cunningham’s Happy Days, the official Italian voice of Mickey Mouse, by John Travolta (included in Pulp Fiction), by Sylvester Stallone in Cop Land, by Willem Dafoe ne The Last Temptation of Christ, and, of course, Mel Gibson.

Many awards won thanks to cinema, theater and TV, but also his commitment that saw him among the founders of the Social Secretariat of Rai and of theAssociation of Italian voice actors gathered, of which he was president from 1994 until his death. The funeral will be held in a strictly private form.
