Just a year after the Emmy nomination for the series Lovercraft Country of HBO, however, the life of the actor, 54, breaks: on 6 September he is, in fact, found dead in his Brooklyn home, in New York, due to what appears to be an overdose.
As reported by New York Post, objects were found in the apartment that suggest heroin or fentanyl that Williams had never made a secret of.

In addition to series such as Lovecraft Country, The Night Of and miniseries like When They See Us by Ava DuVernay, Michael K. Williams has also made a name for himself in films such as 12 years a slave, Oscar winner in 2014, Gone baby gone e Assassin’s Creed. Born in Flatbush to a Bahamian mother and American father, Williams began his career as a dancer working with artists such as George Michael, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine and Madonna. Among his first acting roles there is also a part in the 1996 film Bullet alongside Tupac Shakur: “I was angry and I had a lot of energy,” he told theAssociated Press in 2018.
However, he was in the role of Omar Little in The Wire, aired from 2002 to 2008, that Williams achieved international success: thanks to the role of an openly gay robber, Williams won audiences around the world alongside then-would-be President Barack Obama, who once said that Little was his all-time favorite character in the series. The actor had recently finished shooting a John Boyega movie, while in August it was rumored that he would play Charles “Doc” Broadus, George Foreman’s mentor, in an upcoming biopic about the former heavyweight champion. Williams leaves a son, Elijah.
