Farewell to Rosita Missoni, mother of an Italian fashion legend

He told me: here we build our factory, if we want we can go to Milan for the weekend.” Rosita herself said it, according to what Ansa reports, in 2021 in an event organized at the Maga museum in Gallarate to inaugurate the new layout of the Tapestry Room to celebrate one hundred years since Ottavio’s birth.

Rosita transferred her aesthetic sense and love for color to the Missoni garments, creating the famous zigzag sweaters, a motif that would become the symbol of the maison. In 1997 he decided to pass the creative direction of the fashion line to his children and dedicated himself to Missoni Home, the design and furnishings collection.

Rosita was a respected figure not only as a stylist, but also as example of female entrepreneurshipwith the successful feat of keeping alive the link between the maison and the Italian artisan tradition.

In 2013 her husband Ottavio died: in 2015 an exhibition at the Maga museum in Gallarate celebrated the extraordinary history and aesthetics of the maison, with one hundred works by European artists with whom the Missonis interacted during their long artistic journey.

Over the years the company has changed. In 2018 the entry of the private equity fund FSI (Fondo Strategico Italiano), which acquired a stake equal to 41.2% of the company capital, with the aim of supporting the international growth of the brand.
