Major Russian retailer DNS sharply increased prices yesterday on a variety of gadgets and equipment against the backdrop of a depreciation of the ruble and rush demand from users. Today, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia reacted to this step.

Already today, on his Facebook page, the head of the DNS company, Dmitry Alekseev, explained the price increase as follows:
Yesterday we suddenly faced the problem that all our activities have turned into the distribution of the deficit. There was a rush demand, there were failures in the site. Sales have almost doubled.
Yes, it affected the prices as well. Now the growth is up to 30%. And we cannot say that there will be no further growth.
We found ourselves in a new world, where, in addition to the growth of the exchange rate, technological sanctions have been introduced and it is not yet clear how a large list of goods will be delivered.
I understand that prices in stores are annoying, as are the numbers on the scoreboard with exchange rates. But that’s the reality.”
FAS, in turn, decided to check the validity of price increases by the trading network DNS. The agency has already sent a corresponding request to the organization, and also issued a warning to the company official about the inadmissibility of committing actions that may violate the Law on Protection of Competition.
As emphasized in the department, such public statements by officials can be perceived by economic entities trading in household appliances as a guide to action, which can lead to an unreasonable increase in prices for household appliances.
The position of the FAS is as follows:
- when carrying out trading activities, it is necessary to strictly comply with the requirements of antimonopoly legislation;
- participants in the entire commodity-producing chain must prevent unreasonable price increases.
