FAS will check ads in Xiaomi smartphones. What does she face if violations are detected?

The Association of Professional Users of Social Networks and Messengers (APPSIM) sent an appeal to the Federal Antimonopoly Service to check the advertisements displayed in Xiaomi smartphones through the Xiaomi Ads advertising platform. The state department has received a request and will consider it in the prescribed manner, Izvestia reports.

The appeal states that Xiaomi apps show fake and misleading ads through the Xiaomi Ads network. As an example, the authors cite the work of the proprietary Cleaning application, which cannot be deleted. It offers users to clear the space of unnecessary (according to the analysis of smart algorithms) files, and after deletion it shows ads.

It is also noted that some advertising banners are disguised as system notifications (“Attention, 99 threats were found on the phone. Ignore. Clear”) – regardless of the button pressed by the user, he is redirected to a phishing site.

Roskomnadzor stressed that access to materials that violate the law may be limited. The department added that this had previously happened with Google Ads.

Experts interviewed by Izvestia believe that Xiaomi is most likely not in danger of blocking – the first thing the company can do is receive a warning from the Federal Antimonopoly Service demanding to block prohibited ads. In case of repeated violations, she may face fines from 100 to 500 thousand rubles – by the standards of large advertising platforms, these are insignificant amounts. But the responsibility of the advertisers themselves may be more serious, even criminal.
