Chipotle will enable customers to use cryptocurrencies to pay for food at any of the 3,000 U.S. restaurants through its Flexa digital payment platform.
Like other fast food chains like Starbucks or Pizza Hut, Chipotle is trying to experiment with blockchain and cryptography to create an alternative way to serve customers. As part of this Chipotle initiative concluded partnership agreement with the Flexa platform, which will provide the technical implementation of the service.
Chipotle customers will be able to pay in 98 cryptocurrencies, including BTC and ETH. To do this, they must first download the Gemini application or the SPEDN cryptocurrency wallet, where digital assets will be stored. Customers then need to use the app and the terminal installed in the restaurant. The payment received from the client is immediately converted into US dollars.
It should be noted that payments in cryptocurrency have “penetrated” into gourmet restaurants as well. So, in March, the owner of the popular Maltese restaurant chain St. Paul’s Bay Marvin Gauci has announced its readiness to accept payments in cryptocurrency.
