Father and son arrested for assaulting man after traffic dispute in Rio

A father and son were arrested this Wednesday (10) after assaulting and stealing a man’s cell phone following a traffic dispute in the Rocha Miranda neighborhood, in the North Zone of Rio.

According to the Civil Police, the crime occurred on June 12 when one of the perpetrators got out of the back seat of the vehicle he was in and put the victim in a chokehold.

Then, his son, who was driving the car, also punched and kicked the victim in the face and chest, according to the PC. He also searched the man, who was immobilized on the ground, and took his cell phone.

In the video, it is possible to see the security camera footage of the moment in which the men argue and the father hits the victim who falls to the ground.

The Civil Police stated that the victim fainted for a few moments and when he woke up, he was attacked again by the criminals. The man was thrown into a flowerbed and the blows only stopped when the wife of one of the attackers intervened.

The son was arrested this Wednesday (10), in Irajá, also in the North Zone and had criminal records for robberies committed in the region. The father was arrested the day before, in the city center.

According to investigations, the victim’s cell phone was being used by another member of the attackers’ family.

In a statement, the police said that preventive arrest warrants were served and the device was recovered this Wednesday.
