Father who was arrested after daughter died from accidental gunshot fired inside home is released

The São Paulo Court granted provisional release to the man who was arrested after his daughter died from an accidental gunshot fired inside the family home in Bragança Paulista, in the interior of São Paulo. The custody hearing took place last Sunday (14).

According to the TJ-SP, provisional freedom was granted to Alexandre Lara de Arruda Penteado, 53 years old, with precautionary measures to be complied with, such as “quarterly appearance in court, to inform and justify their activities; prohibition of access to or frequency of bars and nightclubs and; prohibition of unjustifiably leaving the District where they will be tried for more than seven days.”

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday (14). After his daughter died from an accidental gunshot fired inside the family home in Bragança Paulista, the Civil Police arrested Alexandre in flagrante delicto.

A CNN the São Paulo Public Security Department reported that the weapon belonged to the father of the nine-year-old child, and that he did not have regular authorization to possess a weapon.

The girl was taken by her parents to Santa Casa de Itatiba shortly after the incident, but she did not survive her injuries and died at the health unit. At the scene, ammunition of calibers 38 and 12 were seized, in addition to the firearm.

The victim’s father will be charged with the crimes of manslaughter against a minor and illegal possession of a permitted firearm.
