Fauci says the US is getting ready to face Ômicron, but it’s “too early” for lockdown

Americans must be prepared to fight the spread of the new variant of Covid-19, the Omicron, but it is too early to say what actions are necessary, including possible lockdowns, said this Sunday (28) Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease specialist.

You USA they must do “anything and everything” amid the variant’s likely cases, but it is “too early to tell” whether new lockdowns will be needed, Fauci told ABC News.

“You want to be prepared to do anything and everything,” he added. The Ômicron variant, first discovered in South Africa and announced in recent days, has been detected in an increasing number of countries.

Fauci, in an interview with NBC News on Saturday (27), had said it was possible she was already in the United States, although no official case has been confirmed.

US health officials will again speak with their South African counterparts about the variant this Sunday, Fauci told ABC News’ This Week in another interview.
