Fauci: The Delta variant is the biggest threat in the US battle to eradicate the pandemic

THE Delta variant of new coronavirus, first detected in India, poses the greatest threat to the US effort to eradicate Covid-19 in the country. This position was expressed by the White House adviser for dealing with the pandemic, Mr. Dr. Anthony Fauci, during a telephone conversation with journalists.

“Transmissibility is unquestionably higher” in the Delta variant from the original Covid-19 executive, said the top US health official, infectious disease specialist, adding that “it is associated with increased severity of the disease.”

The Delta variant is evolving into a globally dominant variant of the virus, Sumia Swaminathan, chief scientist at the World Health Organization, said on Friday.

Dr. Faucet stressed that US-approved vaccines, including the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, are effective against the new variant of Covid-19. “We have the tools, so let’s use them to defeat the outbreak,” he noted, according to the APE-MPE.

The United States will not achieve the goal set by President Joe Biden to vaccinate 70% of the adult population by July 4, and it will probably take a few extra weeks to achieve that percentage, said the White House Senior Adviser on Countering of Covid-19, Jeffrey Zienz during this telephone conversation.

Zienz added that he expects 70% of adults over the age of 27 to have received at least one dose of the vaccine by July 4th.

More than 150,000,000 people in the United States, or more than 45% of the population, have been fully vaccinated, according to the latest figures from the federal government.

The Delta variant contributed to a severe Covid-19 outbreak in India in April and May, flooding the country’s health services and killing hundreds of thousands.
