The influence of Portuguese music on this Madonna album goes beyond the artist's re-recording, as “Madame X” was conceived while the queen of pop lived in Portugal. She lived for three years in the capital Lisbon, until she decided to live in New York.

During this period, she experienced Portuguese culture, mainly through the influence of her children.
