The FBI said today that hackers did not have access to any data or personal information on its network, a day after they broke into a service server to send thousands of fake emails.
The service reported that it fixed the vulnerability of the software that allowed the attack.
The fake emails came from an FBI server that forwards alerts to the Business Law Enforcement Portal (LEEP), which the FBI uses to communicate with government and local agencies. The server was not part of the FBI’s corporate email service, the FBI added.
The fake emails warned of a cyber attack and appeared to come from a legitimate FBI email address ending in @ ic.fbi.gov, the FBI said.
