The FBI is working with NYPD on the investigation of this morning’s (12) shooting on the Brooklyn subway. The White House also monitors the situation and is in contact with the New York mayor.
According to the assistant director in charge of the FBI’s New York field office, Michael J. Driscoll, the investigative unit is following “all viable leads.”
“The joint terrorism task force of the FBI and the NYPD (New York Police Department) is made up of more than 50 agencies and we are fully engaged in this investigation. It is still very much in its early stages. Our focus now – our thoughts and prayers are with the victims. We are following up on all viable leads and will continue to do so with the NYPD and our other partners in the city,” Driscoll said, speaking at an unrelated press conference.
The FBI assistant director added that gathering evidence for the shooting should take “some time,” but added that he is grateful to residents and eyewitnesses who have already stepped forward with information.
“I look forward to more assistance as we go forward. If you have information relevant to the attack, please contact the NYPD’s whistleblower hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS,” Driscoll said.
US President Joe Biden – who travels to the state of Iowa on Tuesday to discuss measures to curb fuel prices – is constantly being updated by the White House on the case and is expected to address the matter in his speech.
In addition, a system that gathers information about victims in this type of incident, created after 9/11, was activated in the city. Through it, people who are looking for missing persons have a direct channel of information.
