The gunman who authorities say carried out the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump acted alone and used a legally purchased AR-style rifle, FBI officials said Sunday (14).
The federal agency added that it had no indications the suspect had any mental health issues.
FBI officials, in a briefing to reporters, said the investigation was in an early phase and that they had not yet identified an ideology associated with the suspect.
They added that finding a motive for the shooting was one of their priorities and that the investigation is being treated as an “act of domestic terrorism and attempted murder.”
Who is the shooter?
The gunman who authorities say carried out the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump was a 20-year-old registered Republican who had previously made a small contribution to a Democratic-aligned group, according to public records.
