A public report released by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation shows that from March to May 2023, the agency seized $1.7 million in various digital assets.
According to the document, in three months, law enforcement officers managed to get $800,000 in ETH, $307,000 in Tether stablecoins and $469,000 in DAI tokens. As for bitcoin, the volume of confiscated assets is small – $ 147,000. In addition, $ 20,000 in the anonymous Monero cryptocurrency got into FBI wallets. The funds, according to the agency, were received from various sources, including the wallets of users of the largest crypto exchange Binance.
Separately, representatives of the FBI emphasized that all the confiscated assets were received by the agency lawfully, as part of the investigation of various crimes.
Law enforcement officers reminded that often scammers look like bona fide buyers or sellers of assets, so users of cryptocurrencies and NFTs should constantly be on their guard.
In May, the FBI warned that attractive jobs in Southeast Asia could mask forced labor in a cryptocurrency scam.
