Young people who have innovative ideas that will solve practical problems in tourism through the use of technology, calls CapsuleT Travel & Hospitality Accelerator, which is an initiative of the Hotel Chamber of Greece, in order to participate in the 3rd Idea Platform.
The new application period starts today, Monday, February 21st and lasts until Monday, March 21st, 2022 and takes the baton of two successful Capsule Idea Platform youth competitions.T to accelerate technological start-ups in tourism.
The accelerator, always guided by the promotion of innovation and the upgrading of the Greek tourism product, invites the teams to claim a place in the competition program and – if selected – to have the opportunity to work intensively with the help of industry experts on their idea. The 12-day competition program is full of workshops, mentoring sessions and talks by industry experts, such as recognized founders of start-ups and executives of large organizations and companies active in tourism, with the ultimate goal of guiding start-ups, to support its further development. their idea but also its transformation into a start-up.
Who can participate?
The Idea Platform is aimed at young students, graduates, postgraduate or doctoral students of the country’s schools, new unemployed executives, as well as new companies at a very early stage of activity with technological and business background. The purpose of the participating teams is to submit business proposals that can solve practical problems identified in tourism, through the use of technology and focus on the categories / areas of the competition.
The team of the accelerator is looking for ideas that can be developed into startups with a positive impact on the digital transformation of the Greek tourism industry, while in case the 3 winners of the competition will have the opportunity to qualify directly in the 5th round of the Program Acceleration in order to further develop their business.
More specifically, the eligible candidates, in order to secure a place in the program that will take place from March 28 to April 14, 2022, must be:
– groups (at least 2 people) with an innovative business idea for the tourism sectorwhich requires the use of technology to implement.
– team members must be 18 to 35 years old, graduates or postgraduate students related to areas such as Science, Engineering, Informatics, Business Administration, Finance, Tourism Management and so on.
– applicants must to have Greek citizenship or to be residents of Greece.
the candidate groups they should not have received any other fundingexcept for a first round of financing and / or from friends and family (not exceeding 50,000 euros)
– in case they have already set up a company, the establishment period should be less than 6 months from the date of application for participation in the program.
The teams participate with ideas for applications in products and services that are relevant to the goals and themes of the Idea Platform, namely: applications and solutions, such as:
a) for the hotel and catering tourism industry (hotel management, revenue management, channel management, HR management, guest products & services, etc.),
b) for tourist transport (Distribution & Transfers)
c) for booking engines and online travel agencies (booking engines & local authorities)
d) for tourist and cultural activities, guided tours and events
e) products and solutions for airports, maritime tourism-marinas
f) applications and sustainability solutions, such as applications and solutions for saving energy and natural resources, food waste, recycling of materials, etc. (indicative applications – solutions of hotel units, tourist facilities, museums but also islands, villages, areas with special tourist concentration, etc.) ,.
g) applications using space technologies in accordance with the “Space for Tourism” funding program in areas such as communications, connectivity, accessibility, travel security, etc .;
h) specialized communication solutions and promotions (such as measurement and evaluation of services, social networks, advertising, etc.).
At the same time, for this year, there is a special section for functional ideas related to applications for solving and managing needs that have arisen in companies, agencies and tourism units due to the pandemic by Covid-19.
Program structure
The 3rd Idea Platform will have a total duration of 12 days and will take place online between March 28 and April 14, 2022. The Idea Platform will include training seminars (workshops), lectures and counseling guidance (implementation of lunch / afternoon program). It is noted that the 12-day period includes both the preparatory period and the competition part. For the successful completion and the right of the teams to participate in the Closing Ceremony (competition part-presentations) on April 14, 2022, the attendance and participation of at least 1 team member is required throughout the program.
Leading companies on the team side
The Idea Platform was designed by the Capsule teamT and the Hotel Chamber of Greece with the active support and assistance of large organizations in the country as well as startup companies of the tourism ecosystem. Indicatively, in the program again this year, Google, the Athens International Airport, the Expedia Group, the NBG Business Seeds of the National Bank and the company Programize are collaborating and participating as strategic partners – among others. In addition, the accelerator’s effort will be supported by representatives of recognized start-ups in the field of tourism; the latter include Clio Muse Tours, Ferryhopper, Triparound, Welcome Pickups, Woof Together, Workathlon, Zoottle, etc.

Important note: The submitted applications of the teams will be evaluated by the organizing committee of the accelerator during the entire application period (21/2 – 21/3) and those of them who meet the criteria, will immediately secure their participation in the program.
