Fears China cut Australian wine imports amid worsening trade war – ABC News

China halted Australian wine imports, severely impacted Australia’s $ 1 billion worth of wine trade, ABC News reports, citing the Australian Grape and Wine industry group.

The Executive Director of the Australian Grapes and Wines Industry Group, Tony BattagleneHe said: “We know there has been no official confirmation of a ban.”

“But we’ve heard that shipments have undergone more testing, are subject to increased document scrutiny, and it’s definitely slowing down any customs passes. So, actually we have not heard of any shipments that have cleared customs yet”He added.

This comes as the industry prepares for the possibility of tariffs being imposed on Australian wine exports to China, as part of an investigation into claims that Australian winemakers sold wine below cost of production and received government subsidies.
