Featured in awards season, “Poor Creatures” arrives on Star+ this Wednesday (20). The title is by the Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos known for his work on “The Lobster” (2015), “The Sacrifice of the Sacred Deer” (2017) and “The Favorite” (2018).
In the plot, a woman is revived after suicide by a mad doctor who replaces her brain with that of her unborn baby.
Childlike but with the body of an adult, Bella Baxter becomes increasingly independent and enthusiastic about her sexual experiences as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery through a version of 19th century Europe.
The production stars the Oscar winner Emma Stone (“La La Land” and “The Favorite”) and the veterans Mark Ruffalo (“Suddenly 30” and “The Avengers”) and Willem Dafoe (“Spider-Man” and “At the Lighthouse of Eternity”), as well as the comedian Ramy Youssef (“Ramy” and “Mr. Robot”).
The film took home four statuettes from Hollywood's main awards: Best Actress (Emma Stone), Hair and Makeup, Costume Design and Production Design.
