Febraban enters the STF against Americanas

At 1:11 pm this Thursday (16), the Brazilian Federation of Banks filed a petition with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) against Americanas’ request to suspend the anticipated production of evidence produced by Bradesco against the company. The document is confidential, but court sources confirmed to CNN its content.

It is the first time that the main entity of the Brazilian financial sector takes a position in the Americanas case, which, as shown by the CNN arrived this Wednesday at the STF.

In the request, attached to the Americanas’ complaint, Febraban asks the STF to enter as amicus curiae, a legal expression that means that there is a third party, in addition to the two parties (in the case of Americanas and Bradesco), interested in the cause.

It also asks that all Americanas’ requests regarding the anticipated production of evidence be rejected and that the secrecy of the process be lifted.

The entity also makes it clear that it intends that the facts of the case be elucidated —hence the importance of producing evidence in advance— and that those responsible, whoever they may be, administrators or controllers, be punished.

The entity is not interested, according to STF sources, in acting in the credit relationship between banks and Americanas.

Sought, Americanas did not manifest itself.
