The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) decided this Wednesday (27) to sign the manifesto of pro-democracy business entities, a source in the sector told CNN .
The manifesto, which has been led by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), is non-partisan and defends democratic values and independence between the powers. The document had been anticipated by CNN policy analyst Caio Junqueira.
In a note, Febraban confirmed the adhesion. “The Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), within the scope of its internal governance, by majority, decided to subscribe to a document sent to the entity by the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (Fiesp), entitled ‘In Defense of Democracy and Justice’ ”, reads the statement.
The document should be made public on August 11 at a ceremony at the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo. Also on that day, the manifesto released yesterday by individuals in favor of democracy will be read.
They are two different documents, but with the same objective. The business entities version is more succinct. According to the CNN the Brazilian Basic Industry Association (Abdib) also decided to sign.
