Fed official says he would support further rate hike in May if appropriate

the president of Federal Reserve of New York, John Williams, said this Friday (25) that he would be open to a higher high than fees if the economic data justify this move.

Asked if he would advocate a 0.5 percentage point increase at the Fed’s May 3-4 meeting, Williams told a conference hosted by the Federal Reserve’s central bank. Peru and by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) that the Federal Reserve will be guided by economic data between now and the time of the meeting.

“Which is the correct decision at any given time will depend on the situation at the time, but the simplest answer to your question is that if it is appropriate to raise interest rates by 0.5 point at a meeting, then I think we should do that.” said Williams.

“If it is appropriate [subir em] 0.25 [ponto percentual]then we will do that,” he said.
