Three union entities that represent federal police and federal highway police have scheduled, for this Tuesday (19), an assembly to discuss a possible mobilization against the government to press for a greater readjustment of the salaries of the category.
Police officers demonstrate strong dissatisfaction with President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) announcement that the government will carry out a linear readjustment of 5% to all federal servants starting in July. In the assessment of the category, if the increase is 5% for everyone and there is no restructuring, the loss will be great.
The entities will consult their bases until next Friday (22), and there is an indication that a strike will be approved. According to the presidents of the associations, the tendency is for all entities to internally approve a single calendar of acts that will be defined as of next week.
The police officers understand that the government has not spoken and, with the gesture of the linear increase, shows that there is no political will to proceed with the restructuring of careers – which had already been negotiated and whose premises were approved in the Budget.
A salary increase for the Federal Police and the Federal Highway Police was even signaled at least twice by Bolsonaro who, after the speeches, backed off and did not take any practical measures in relation to the matter.
Tense meeting with the Minister of Justice
The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres, a career federal police officer, was chosen by President Jair Bolsonaro to try to overcome the crisis involving the dissatisfaction of the category.
Torres participated in a meeting with representatives of the police, who heard that there is no “hammer beaten” by the government on the linear readjustment of 5% to all servers.
The meeting took place in a tense atmosphere, but without “clumsiness”, according to participants. Anderson Torres said he would act to try to find a solution and that the linear increase was not yet fully decided.
Representatives of the police, however, saw the gesture as an attempt to retreat, but there is no longer any certainty about what will happen. The assessment is that the government managed to pick a fight with all sides.
