The federal government will transfer R$ 2.33 million to civil defense actions in the city of Petrópolis, in Rio de Janeiro, which has been hit by heavy rains since last Tuesday (15). At least 120 people died.
The authorization came from the Ministry of Regional Development (MDR). The ordinances that release the resources were published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette (DOU), on Thursday night (17).
Of the R$ 2.33 million authorized, R$ 1.67 million will be used to purchase basic food baskets, personal hygiene kits, mattresses, cleaning materials and bedroom kits with blankets and sheets. More than three thousand people are expected to benefit.
R$ 655,700 will be allocated to urban cleaning and the clearing of canals, with the hiring of general service assistants, general manager of works, trucks and excavators. Cleaning will take place, in this first phase, in more than 10 areas of the city.
