Federal government launches campaign to promote peace in schools

The federal government launched a campaign this Thursday (20) to promote a safe and peaceful environment in schools. Entitled “We are together for peace in schools”, the idea is also to invite states and municipalities to participate in the movement.

The action takes place after Brazil witnessed attacks on schools, day care centers and verified the increase in threats of attacks. This led, for example, to the Safe School Operation, with preventive and repressive actions 24 hours a day, which “has no end date”.

More than 225 people were arrested or apprehended, in the case of minors, and hundreds of social media accounts were overturned, as announced by Flávio Dino, Minister of Justice and Public Security.

With the campaign announced this Thursday, the federal administration wants to emphasize the union so that the country can “overcome this period of fear and anguish”. Thus, two hashtags were also launched: #BrasilUnidoPelaPaz and #EscolaSegura.

The federal government is also evaluating whether the disclosure of data on recent operations in schools, such as the number of prisoners, could encourage new attacks, as reported by Basilia Rodrigues, Policy analyst at CNN .

Authorities point out that the contagion effect can be a strong incentive for these practices, which occurs when images of attacks and criminal actions are shared on social networks or the media, for example. A CNN for example, decided not to show photos and videos of the attack in Blumenau.

An ordinance of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security was also edited regulating the moderation of content about school violence on social networks. Platforms that do not delete this content may suffer administrative sanctions that may lead to the suspension of the company’s activity and fines.
