Federal government launches new model of passport; check what changes

O federal government announced this Monday (27) a new model of passport . The aim, according to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, is for the document to become a “visiting card for Brazilian citizens to the world”.

All pages of the passport will be illustrated with icons representing the biomes and culture of each of the country’s five regions.

The new model was conceived in a partnership between the Casa da Moeda, the Federal Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “taking into account the most modern anti-fraud technology in the world”.

According to the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), an institution of the United Nations (UN) that standardizes travel documents, passports must be updated every 10 years. In Brazil, however, the items are the same since 2006.

Issue

The Ministry of Justice and Public Security informs that there is no change in the issuance procedure, which will continue to cost R$ 257.25. New model begins to be issued from September this year. Until then, anyone who needs to get a passport can do it normally, guarantees the folder.

New Identity Card

Also on Monday, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) delivered the first National Identity Cards (CIN) issued by the states participating in the pilot project. The new ID will have a QR Code that will allow any citizen to quickly check the authenticity of the document.
