This Friday morning (28), the Federal Police launched Operation Engodo in the city of Porto Alegre. The objective of the action was to dismantle a group responsible for falsifying master’s and doctorate diplomas in the name of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS).
Two search and seizure warrants were carried out in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and a man was arrested for using false documents and illegally exercising his profession. He carried out the crimes in his own clinic, located in the Farroupilha neighborhood.
The investigation that uncovered the irregularities had the support of the Biomedicine and Dentistry Councils.
In addition to falsifying diplomas, the group involved in the actions promised to revalidate diplomas obtained in countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and the United States.
They also co-opted public servants who wanted to obtain additional qualifications, charging approximately R$7,000 to falsify the diplomas that were presented to municipal, state and federal public entities.
The Federal Police estimates that around two thousand fake diplomas have already been generated by the criminal group, including documents for master’s degrees, doctorates, postgraduate degrees, specializations and courses in general.
