The Federal Police (PF) carried out an operation this Thursday (26), in six municipalities in the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, to dismantle a criminal scheme involving medical students.
According to the investigations, to obtain 100% scholarships at a college in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes, in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, students falsified documents to declare low income.
“It was also identified that one of the ways for students to impersonate a low-income person was their registration in the CadÚnico of the federal government. As a result, in addition to fraudulently receiving scholarships, students – and, in some cases, their parents themselves – received Emergency Aid, derived from actions to combat the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
During the investigations, 12 people were indicted, including students and parents. Among other evidence, it was identified, through breach of bank secrecy, that the investigated “moved exorbitant amounts, incompatible with a person who said he had no resources”.
In today’s action, about 70 federal police officers fulfill 16 search and seizure warrants, issued by the 2nd Federal Court of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ).
At addresses in Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, linked to students, agents found luxury cars and high-end properties, incompatible with the reality of low-income people.
The investigated will answer for the crimes of embezzlement, misrepresentation and criminal association.
