The Federal Police (PF) continued, this Tuesday morning (20), the second phase of Operation Catarse to arrest the central nucleus of a criminal organization specialized in the falsification of medical diplomas and the enrollment of false doctors in regional councils.
In the action, 30 federal police officers serve four preventive arrest warrants and seven search and seizure warrants in Rio de Janeiro, in Silva Jardim (RJ), Saquarema (RJ) and Montes Claros (MG).
The investigation, conducted by the Task Force of the Police Station for Repression of Treasury Crimes of the PF in Rio, began in April 2022 with the arrest of two people at the headquarters of the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Cremerj) , when they tried to obtain the professional records of educated physicians with falsified medical graduation documents, diplomas and school transcripts.
In the first phase of the operation, in February 2023, 11 search and seizure warrants were executed against individuals and legal entities involved in the criminal scheme, including two medical clinics. At the time, cell phones, lab coats, stamps, identification documents, Cremerj wallets, school transcripts and diplomas were seized.
In this second phase, the PF targets the leaders of the criminal organization and dismantles its operations in several states of the country. The PF also wants to identify other fake doctors and professionals from other areas who are working based on the services provided by the gang.
The investigated crimes are those of falsifying a public document, with a penalty of two to six years of imprisonment and a fine, and the use of a false document, which configures the imposition of the same penalty as the previous crime – in this case, that of falsifying a public document.
