The Federal Police (PF) is investigating an international human trafficking network that has already taken at least ten women from Brazil to Naples, in southern Italy. According to investigations carried out by the Mato Grosso PF, victims from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Acre, Sergipe and Mato Grosso have already been identified.
According to the PF, the scheme is run by a Brazilian suspect who lives in Italy, where he runs a house of prostitution, and is supported by his sister, who lives in Cuiabá (MT).
The investigation points out that the logistical and financial support for enticement, as well as the “laundering of money from pimping”, is carried out in the capital of Mato Grosso. The PF says that the sister also participates in the profits from human trafficking.
The investigation points out that the victims are attracted by promises of a better quality of life through prostitution abroad. However, in order for them to arrive in Italy without resources, they need to accept and contract a debt of around 10,000 euros (about R$ 50,000) in advance.
“Once arriving at the destination, the victims are kept in accommodation described as unhealthy, dirty and unsuitable for housing, whose daily rate must also be paid”, points out the PF.
In testimonies, victims stated that they suffered threats, as well as their family members residing in Brazil, in case of flight or insurgency. They also reported being under pressure to work, regardless of their health situation, even with a minimum goal to be achieved per day.
Based on the testimonies and initial investigation, the PF launched the first phase of the Operation Magnaccia , this Wednesday (12), and served a search and seizure warrant at the house of the sister who would be the “head of the scheme”, in Cuiabá. Documents, electronic devices and notebooks with notes were seized.
With the measures adopted in this first phase, the PF hopes to identify others involved in the investigated international trafficking in persons, as well as other victims.
