An operation by the Federal Police and the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU) is executing 12 search and seizure warrants this Thursday (11), in the municipality of Santaluz, about 275 km from Salvador. The investigations point to irregularities in the hiring of a company to provide school transportation services in the city, worth more than R$8 million.
According to the PF, the city hall opened an electronic auction in 2022 for the company to carry out 89 routes in the city. However, the chosen service provider does not have a registered employee and owns only five vehicles, which would be insufficient to execute the contract.
It was also found that the company that won the bid presented the highest price in the electronic auction, but ended up being chosen due to the disqualification of the other nine companies that presented lower prices, resulting in an overbilling of approximately R$ 3 million.
Furthermore, some of the companies disqualified from the competition received payment from the winning business group shortly after being excluded from the bidding.
In addition to Santaluz, the warrants were also served in the Bahian cities of Conceição do Coité, Capim Grosso, Itiúba, Senhor do Bonfim and Várzea da Roça.
According to the Federal Police, those investigated will be charged with crimes of mayoral liability, bidding fraud, as well as active and passive corruption and money laundering.
A CNN sought out the targets of the investigation and awaits feedback.
